O dan adran 41(1)(b) o Ddeddf Safonau a Fframwaith Ysgolion 1998 mae corff llywodraethu ysgol gymunedol, ysgol wirfoddol a reolir neu ysgol arbennig gymunedol yn gyfrifol am benderfynu ar amserau sesiynau'r ysgol. Hynny yw, yr amserau pan fydd pob un o sesiynau'r ysgol (neu os nad oes ond un, sesiwn yr ysgol) yn dechrau ac yn dod i ben ar unrhyw ddiwrnod.
Mae'r Rheoliadau hyn yn nodi'r gweithdrefnau y mae'n rhaid i gorff llywodraethu ysgol o'r fath eu dilyn cyn newid amserau eu sesiynau. Nid ydynt yn gymwys i ysgolion sefydledig, ysgolion gwirfoddol a gynorthwyir nac ysgolion arbennig sefydledig. Ceir esboniad manylach o'r Rheoliadau isod.
Mae Rheoliad 2 yn nodi'r gweithdrefnau y mae rhaid i'r corff llywodraethu eu dilyn.
Mae Rheoliad 3 yn pennu pa bryd y mae newid i amser sesiynau'r ysgol yn weithredol.
Mae Rheoliad 4 yn darparu bod y cyfarfod â'r rhieni (y mae'n ofynnol ei gynnal cyn bod unrhyw newid yn amserau sesiynau'r ysgol yn cael ei wneud) o dan reolaeth y corff llywodraethu.
