This Order brings into force section 59(4) and (5) of the Electoral Administration Act 2006 (c. 22) on 27th April 2016, so far as it is not already in force. Those subsections ensure that before the Secretary of State makes an order commencing section 59 of the 2006 Act as it applies to the holders of a relevant elective office (as defined by paragraph 1(8) of Schedule 7 to the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 (c. 41)), he or she must have been informed by the Electoral Commission that the Commission is satisfied that it will receive sufficient information about donations to those office-holders. Information will be sufficient, broadly speaking, if it corresponds to that required to be reported under Schedule 7 to the 2000 Act.
