This Order brings into force the provisions of the Wreck Removal Convention Act 2011.
On 5th February 2015 new sections 255A, 255J, 255N and 255R of, and Schedule 11 ZA to, the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 are brought into force to the extent necessary to enable the Secretary of State—
(a)to issue wreck removal insurance certificates to shipowners,
(b)to make regulations prescribing the fees for such certificates, and
(c)to describe the United Kingdom’s Convention area,
in preparation for the date when the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks 2007 comes into force.
On 14th April 2015, the date when the Convention comes into force, the provisions referred to above come into force for all other purposes and the remainder of the Act comes into force.
