1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the County of Shropshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2009.
(2) This Order, other than articles 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9, comes into force—
(a)for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the election of councillors for county electoral divisions, or for the election of councillors for the parish wards of Shrewsbury as the case may be, on the day following the day on which the Order is made;
(b)for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2009.
(3) Articles 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9 come into force—
(a)for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to the election of councillors for parishes or parish wards, on 15th October 2012;
(b)for all other purposes, on the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2013.
2. In this Order—
“map” means the map marked “Map referred to in the County of Shropshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2009”, of which prints are available for inspection at the principal office of the Electoral Commission: and any reference to a numbered sheet is a reference to the sheet of the map which bears that number;
“ordinary day of election of councillors” has the meaning given by section 37 of the Representation of the People Act 1983(1).
3.—(1) The electoral divisions of the county of Shropshire are abolished and the County of Shropshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2004(2) is revoked.
(2) The county is divided into sixty-three electoral divisions each bearing a name listed in column 1 of the Table in the Schedule.
(3) Each electoral division comprises the area designated on sheet 1 of the map by reference to the name of the electoral division and demarcated by red lines.
(4) The number of councillors to be elected for each electoral division is the number specified in column 2 of the Table in the Schedule.
(5) Where a boundary is shown on the map as running along a road, railway line, footway, watercourse or similar geographical feature, it is to be treated as running along the centre line of the feature.
4.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Broseley are abolished (3)
(2) The parish is divided into three wards named respectively—
(a)Broseley East;
(b)Broseley West;
(c)Broseley Wood.
(3) Each ward comprises the area designated on sheet 5 of the map by the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(4) Six councillors are to be elected for Broseley East parish ward.
(5) Four councillors are to be elected for Broseley West parish ward.
(6) One councillor is to be elected for Broseley Wood parish ward.
5.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Ludlow are abolished (4)
(2) The parish is divided into seven wards named respectively—
(a)Bringewood;
(b)Clee View;
(c)Corve;
(d)Gallows Bank;
(e)Hayton;
(f)Rockspring;
(g)Whitcliffe.
(3) Each ward comprises the area designated on sheet 5 of the map by the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(4) Three councillors are to be elected for Gallows Bank parish ward.
(5) Two councillors are to be elected for each of the following parish wards—
(a)Bringewood;
(b)Clee View;
(c)Corve;
(d)Hayton;
(e)Rockspring;
(f)Whitcliffe.
6.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Market Drayton are abolished (5)
(2) The parish is divided into three wards named respectively—
(a)Market Drayton East;
(b)Market Drayton North;
(c)Market Drayton South.
(3) Each ward comprises the area designated on sheet 2 of the map by the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(4) Seven councillors are to be elected for Market Drayton North parish ward.
(5) Five councillors are to be elected for each of the following parish wards;
(a)Market Drayton East;
(b)Market Drayton South.
7.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Oswestry are abolished (6).
(2) The parish is divided into six wards named respectively—
(a)Cabin Lane;
(b)Cambrian;
(c)Carreg Llwyd;
(d)Castle;
(e)Gatacre;
(f)Maserfield.
(3) Each ward comprises the area designated on sheet 2 of the map by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(4) Three councillors are to be elected for each parish ward.
8.—(1) The parish of Shrewsbury(7) is divided into seventeen wards named respectively—
(a)Abbey;
(b)Bagley;
(c)Battlefield;
(d)Belle Vue;
(e)Bowbrook;
(f)Castlefields and Ditherington;
(g)Column;
(h)Copthorne;
(i)Harlescott;
(j)Meole;
(k)Monkmoor;
(l)Porthill;
(m)Quarry and Coton Hill;
(n)Radbrook;
(o)Sundorne;
(p)Sutton and Reabrook;
(q)Underdale.
(2) Each ward comprises the area designated on sheets 3 and 4 of the map by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(3) One councillor is to be elected for each ward.
9.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Whitchurch Urban are abolished (8).
(2) The parish is divided into three wards named respectively—
(a)Whitchurch Urban North;
(b)Whitchurch Urban South;
(c)Whitchurch Urban West.
(3) Each ward comprises the area designated on sheet 6 of the map by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(4) Five councillors are to be elected for each ward.
