This Order brings section 163(2) of the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 into force on 25th September 2006, to the extent indicated in article 2. The effect is to bring into force, in England and Wales, provisions inserted by that section in the Police Act 1997 which make the British Transport Police a relevant police force for the purpose of obtaining information to be disclosed in an enhanced criminal record certificate under Part V of the 1997 Act.
The Order also re-numbers the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 (Commencement) (No.7) Order 2006 (SI/1871) as (No. 8), to take account of the previous Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 (Commencement No.7) Order 2006 (SSI/381).
