In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 19(5)(c), 67(1) and 68(1) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Skills hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Disability Discrimination (Services and Premises) (Amendment) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 1st September 2002.
2. These Regulations do not apply to Northern Ireland.
3. The Disability Discrimination (Services and Premises) Regulations 1996(2) shall be amended in accordance with regulation 4 below.
4. Regulation 9 (Exemption from sections 19 to 21 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 for certain educational services) shall be revoked.

These Regulations revoke, except for Northern Ireland, regulation 9 (Exemption from sections 19 to 21 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 for certain educational services) of the Disability Discrimination (Services and Premises) Regulations 1996. Regulation 9 of the 1996 Regulations exempted certain specified educational services from sections 19 to 21 of the 1995 Act (discrimination in relation to goods, facilities and services). The exempted services included services provided by local education authorities (education authorities in Scotland), activities provided by voluntary organisations, and research facilities and assessments at relevant establishments (defined in sub-paragraph (2) of that regulation).
