The Common Agricultural Policy (Wine) (Amendment) Regulations 1998

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations, which come into force on 1st April 1998, amend for the second time the Common Agricultural Policy (Wine) Regulations 1996 (S.I. 1996/696) (“the principal Regulations”) which provide for the enforcement of EC Regulations concerned with the production and marketing of wine and related products.

These Regulations—

(a) substitute references to the Chief Executive of the Wine Standards Board for those to the Secretary to the Board, to take account of the change in designation of the Board’s senior officer (regulation 3);

(b) revise and bring up to date Schedules 1 and 2 to the principal Regulations so as to include references to any relevant EC Regulations which have been adopted since the coming into force of the first amending Regulations (S.I. 1997/542) (regulations 4 to 9);

(c) make minor changes to the list of vine varieties for producing table wines, contained in Schedule 3 to the principal Regulations (regulation 10);

(d) revise the list of counties forming the specified region of English vineyards, contained in Part I of Schedule 4 to the principal Regulations, to take account of the recent creation of several new counties (regulation 11);

(e) substitute the county name “Ceredigion” for that of “Cardiganshire” in the list of counties and county boroughs forming the specified region of Welsh vineyards, contained in Part II of Schedule 4 to the principal Regulations (regulation 12);

(f) make minor changes to the list of vine varieties for producing quality wines psr, contained in Schedule 5 to the principal Regulations (regulation 13).
