The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretaries of State respectively concerned with the sea fishing industry in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 5(1), 20(1) and 22(2)(a) of the Sea Fish (Conservation) Act 1967(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Sole, etc. (Specified Sea Areas) (Prohibition of Fishing) (Variation) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 26th February 1998.
2.—(1) The Sole, etc. (Specified Sea Areas) (Prohibition of Fishing) Order 1997(2) shall be varied in accordance with paragraph (2) of this article.
(2) In article 2 paragraph (2) sub-paragraph (b), for the words “beginning with the date of coming into force of this Order and ending immediately before 1st January 1998” there shall be substituted the words “beginning immediately before 28th February 1998 and ending immediately before 1st January 1999”.

This Order varies the Sole, etc. (Specified Sea Areas) (Prohibition of Fishing) Order 1997 to prohibit, during the period beginning immediately before 28 February 1998 and ending immediately before 1st January 1999, fishing for sole, plaice and certain other species of fish in certain sea areas.
1967 c. 84; section 5(1) was substituted by section 22(1) of the Fisheries Act 1981 (c. 29); section 22(2)(a) which contains a definition of “the Ministers” for the purposes of section 5 was amended by the Fisheries Act 1981, sections 19(2)(d) and 45(b).
