Interpretation

2.  In these Regulations—

  • “course of initial teacher training” means a course for the initial training of teachers in schools which has been approved by the Secretary of State under paragraph 2(a) or 2(b)(i) of Schedule 5 to the Education (Teachers) Regulations 1982(1);

  • “grant-maintained” means maintained by the Secretary of State in pursuance of section 52 of the Education Reform Act 1988(2);

  • “holder” means a person in receipt of a training bursary;

  • “middle school” means a school in respect of which proposals have been implemented, being proposals such as are mentioned in section 1(1) of the Education Act 1964(3);

  • “qualified teacher” means a person who, in pursuance of the Regulations(4) relating to the employment of teachers made under section 27 of the Education Act 1980(5), is qualified to be employed as a teacher at a school to which that section applies;

  • “training bursary” means a grant made in pursuance of these Regulations.
