Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 3(8) of the Science and Technology Act 1965, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Science and Technology Act 1965 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1965.
2. The 1st April 1965 is hereby appointed as the day upon which the following provisions of the Science and Technology Act 1965 shall come into force:
(i)subsections (1) and (2) of section 3 (for all purposes); and
(ii)subsections (5) of section 3 so far as is necessary for giving effect to the provisions in Schedule 2 for the amendment of the Income Tax Act 1952, and to the provisions of Schedule 3.

This Order appoints 1st April 1965 as the day upon which the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research is dissolved and its activities and those of the National Institute for Research in Nuclear Science are taken over by other bodies and government departments concerned. It also brings into force certain consequential and transitional provisions of the Science and Technology Act 1965.
