Advanced Research And Invention Agency Act 2022

Territorial extent and application

  1. Section 12 sets out the territorial extent of the Act. The Act extends and applies to the whole of the United Kingdom. In addition, amendments made by the Act have the same territorial extent as the legislation that they are amending.
  2. The legislative framework that underpins the support of scientific research and development in the UK contains a mix of powers, including those that are reserved, devolved, and those that are shared or exercisable concurrently in the Science and Technology Act 1965. Except for matters which are reserved, such as issues of national security to which section 5 relates, the provisions of the Act relating to the function of ARIA are within the legislative competence of the Scottish Parliament, Senedd Cymru or the Northern Ireland Assembly.
