Territorial extent and application
- The Act extends to the whole of the United Kingdom, except for certain provisions not extending to Northern Ireland.
- Section 71 allows provisions of this Act to be extended, with modifications, to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and any British overseas territory, by way of an Order in Council.
- The application of the provisions is as described in individual sections. Where a provision applies to "the sea" this is defined to be the territorial waters of the United Kingdom. See the table in Annex A for a summary of the position regarding territorial extent and application of the Act in the United Kingdom.
