Data Protection Act 2018

Commencement

  1. The following provisions of the Act will come into force on Royal Assent: sections 1 (overview) and 3 (terms relating to the processing of personal data); 182 (regulations and consultation), 204 to 206 (definitions); 209 and 210 (application to the Crown and Parliament); 212, 213(2), 214 and 215 (final provisions); and all powers to make secondary legislation.
  2. The following provisions of the Act will come into force at the end of the period of 2 months from the date of Royal Assent: sections 124, and 125, 126 and 127, so far as they relate to a code prepared under section 124 (data protection and journalism code); section 177 (guidance about how to seek redress against media organisations); section 178 and Schedule 17 (review of processing of personal data for the purposes of journalism); and section 179 (effectiveness of the media’s dispute resolution procedures).
  3. The other provisions of the Act will be brought into force by regulations made by the Secretary of State.
