1. This Order may be cited as the Education Reform (1989 Order) (Commencement No. 8) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.
2. In this Order “the 1989 Order” means the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989.
3. Article 6(1) and (2) of and Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order(1) in so far as they relate to the compulsory contributory subjects, History or Geography or Business Studies or Economics or Political Studies or Home Economics or Social and Environmental Studies, shall come into operation—
(a)on 28th March 1997 in relation to pupils in the first year of the fourth key stage; and
(b)on 1st August 1997 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.
4. Article 6(1) and (2) of and Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order in so far as they relate to the compulsory contributory subjects, French or German or Italian or Spanish or Irish, and Articles 5(5) and 11(1)(e) of the 1989 Order shall come into operation—
(a)on 28th March 1997 in relation to pupils in the first year of the fourth key stage; and
(b)on 1st August 1997 in relation to pupils in the second year of the fourth key stage.
