This Order—
(a)establishes the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside;
(b)transfers the functions of the Committee for Nature Conservation and the Ulster Countryside Committee to the Council for Nature Conservation and the Countryside;
(c)abolishes the Committee for Nature Conservation and the Ulster Countryside Committee;
(d)enables the Department of the Environment to convey land acquired under the Nature Conservation and Amenity Lands (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 to individuals;
(e)allows the Department of the Environment to declare as a nature reserve, to carry out works and provide facilities on and to make byelaws in respect of land acquired as an area of special scientific interest;
(f)makes it mandatory for the Department of the Environment to declare an area of special scientific interest and enables that Department to consent to certain operations or activities proposed to be carried out in such an area without previous written notice.
