ANNEX III U.K. ADMINISTRATIVE PROVISIONS FOR THE TYPE-APPROVAL OF VEHICLES WITH REGARD TO THE FITTING OF THEIR TYRES

1. APPLICATION FOR THE [F1 EC TYPE-APPROVAL OF A VEHICLE TYPE U.K.

1.1. The application for [F1 EC type-approval of a vehicle type with regard to its tyres is submitted by the vehicle manufacturer or by his authorized representative. U.K.

1.2. It is accompanied, in triplicate, by a description of the vehicle type and of its tyres in terms of their tyre-size designation, speed category and load-capacity index, including any temporary-use spare unit(s), with which it may be fitted as described in the information document in Appendix 1. U.K.

1.3. A vehicle representative of the vehicle type to be approved must be submitted to the technical service responsible for conducting the approval tests. U.K.

1.4. The vehicle manufacturer or his representative may apply for the EC type-approval to be extended to include tyres of additional tyre-size designations, speed categories or load-capacity indices or additonal temporary-use spare unit(s). U.K.

2. EC TYPE-APPROVAL] OF A VEHICLE U.K.

2.1. EC type-approval is granted and an EC type-approval] number issued in respect of any vehicle type submitted in accordance with section 1 which satisfied the requirements of this Directive. U.K.

2.2. Notice of approval or of extension or of refusal of approval of a vehicle type pursuant to this Directive is communicated to the Member States by means of a form conforming to the model in Appendix 2. U.K.

2.3. An approval number is assigned to each vehicle type approved. The same Member State must not assign the same number to another vehicle type. U.K.

3. MODIFICATION OF VEHICLE TYPE U.K.

3.1. Every modification of a vehicle type must be notified to the approval authority which approved it. That approval authority may then either: U.K.

3.1.1. consider that the modifications made are unlikely to have an appreciable adverse effect and that in any case the vehicle still meets the requirements; or U.K.

3.1.2. refuse to approve the modification. U.K.

3.2. Confirmation or refusal of approval, specifying the alterations, is communicated to the other Member States by the procedure specified in sections 2.2. U.K.

4. CONFORMITY OF PRODUCTION U.K.

4.1. Every production vehicle to which this Directive applies must be so manufactured that it conforms to all of the relevant requirements of this Directive. U.K.

4.2. In order to verify that the requirements of section 4.1 are met, suitable controls of the production must be carried out. U.K.

4.3. The holder of the approval must in particular ensure the existence of procedures for effectively checking on compatibility between the characteristics of the vehicle and the characteristics of the tyres fitted as laid down within the framework of this Directive. U.K.

4.4. The approval authority which has granted type-approval may at any time verify the conformity control methods applicable to each production unit. U.K.

4.4.1. In every inspection, the test books and productions survey records must be presented to the visiting inspector. U.K.

4.5. The normal frequency of inspections authorized by the approval authority in one per year. In the case where negative results are recorded during one of these visits, the approval authority must ensure that all necessary steps are taken to re-establish the conformity of production as rapidly as possible. 5. PRODUCTION DEFINITIVELY DISCONTINUED U.K.

If the holder of an approval completely ceases to manufacture a type of vehicle approved in accordance with this Directive, he must so inform the authority which granted the approval. Upon receiving the relevant communication that authority must inform thereof the other approval authorities by means of a copy of the approval form bearing at the end, in large letters, the signed and dated annotation ‘PRODUCTION DISCONTINUED’.
