Carers (Scotland) Act 2016

Background

5.The Scottish Government published, on 22 January 2014, its formal consultation for proposed legislation to support carers and young carers in Scotland. The consultation was open for 12 weeks and closed on 16 April 2014. The Act takes forward many of the issues that were raised in the consultation document. Explanation of the policy rationale behind the Act can be found in the Policy Memorandum that was published alongside the Bill at introduction. The Act makes provision in relation to the planning and provision of support for carers, about information and advice for carers and to facilitate carer involvement in certain services.
