The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 132(5) of the Patents Act 1977, hereby orders as follows:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Patents Act 1977 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1977.
2. Sections 84, 85, 114 and 130 of the Patents Act 1977 shall come into operation on 31st December 1977.
3. Section 132(7) of the Patents Act 1977 shall, for the purpose of repealing section 88 of the Patents Act 1949, come into operation on 31st December 1977.

This Order appoints 31st December 1977 as the day for the coming into operation of sections 84, 85, 114 and 130 of the Patents Act 1977, which relate to patent agents and other representatives and contain definitions. Section 88 of the Patents Act 1949 (restrictions on practice as patent agent) is repealed on the same day.
