The Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 2024 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2026

The Welsh Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 72(4) and (6) of the Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 20241, and having complied with the requirements of section 72(5), make the following Order.

Title and interpretation1.

(1)

The title of this Order is the Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 2024 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2026.

(2)

In this Order, “the Act” means the Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 2024.

Provisions coming into force on 1 October 20262.

The following provisions of the Act come into force on 1 October 2026—

(a)

section 3 (duty to register local government electors);

(b)

section 4 (provision connected to the duty to register eligible local government electors).

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order is the third commencement order made by the Welsh Ministers under the Elections and Elected Bodies (Wales) Act 2024 (“the Act”).

Article 2 of this Order brings into force sections 3 (duty to register local government electors) and 4 (provision connected to the duty to register eligible local government electors) of the Act on 1 October 2026.

These sections have been brought into force following the completion of the requirements contained in section 72(5) of the Act.
