The Welsh Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 145(3) of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025(1), make the following Order.
1.—(1) The title of this Order is the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 (Commencement) (Wales) Order 2026.
(2) In this Order, “the Act” means the Renters’ Rights Act 2025.
2. The following provisions of the Act come into force on 1 June 2026—
(a)section 43 (discrimination relating to children or benefits status: Welsh language);
(b)section 44 (discrimination relating to children or benefits status: English language);
(c)section 45 (amendment of short title of Renting Homes (Fees etc.) (Wales) Act 2019);
(d)section 46 (amendments of Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 regarding discrimination);
(e)section 47 (power of Welsh Ministers to protect others);
(f)section 48 (power of Secretary of State to protect others);
(g)section 49 (regulations).

This Order, made by the Welsh Ministers, brings into force the provisions of Chapter 4 of Part 1 of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 (“the Act”). These provisions relate to the prohibition of discriminatory bans and restrictions in relation to a dwelling that is to be the subject of an occupation contract on the basis that a child would or may live with or visit a person at the dwelling, or on the basis that a person is or may be a benefits claimant.
This Order brings the following provisions of the Act into force in relation to Wales on 1 June 2026—
section 43 (discrimination relating to children or benefits status: Welsh language).
section 44 (discrimination relating to children or benefits status: English language).
section 45 (amendment of short title of Renting Homes (Fees etc.) (Wales) Act 2019).
section 46 (amendments of Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 regarding discrimination).
section 47 (power of Welsh Ministers to protect others).
section 48 (power of Secretary of State to protect others).
section 49 (regulations).
