The Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 (Commencement No.1) Order 2011

The Welsh Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by sections 150(5) and 156(2) of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011(1), make the following Order:

Title and application

1.—(1) The title of this Order is the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 (Commencement No.1) Order 2011.

(2) This Order applies in relation to Wales.

Commencement

2.  The following provisions of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 come into force on 28 June 2011—

(a)paragraphs 3, 7, 8, 13 and 21 of Schedule 1, and section 2(2) and (3) in so far as those subsections relate to those paragraphs;

(b)section 138;

(c)section 139;

(d)paragraphs 1, 2 and 6 of Schedule 12, and section 146 in so far as it relates to those paragraphs.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order is made under sections 150(5) and 156(2) of the Welsh Language (Wales) Measure 2011 (“the Measure”). Article 2 lists the provisions which are to come into force on 28 June 2011.

This is the first commencement order to be made under the Measure. On 28 June 2011 it commences sections and paragraphs of the Measure which enable Welsh Ministers to make specific regulations and orders, including regulations about the appointment of the Welsh Language Commissioner.
