These Regulations amend the Education (Teachers' Qualifications and Health Standards) (Wales) Regulations 1999 so as to add to the categories of persons who may be qualified teachers a person –

• who has a degree or equivalent qualification;

• who has completed a course of initial teacher training which started before 1st August 2003 at an institution which was accredited under the Education (Teachers' Qualifications and Health Standards) (England) Regulations 1999; and

• who did his or her teaching practice wholly or mainly in schools in Wales.
