bodies as appear to it to be appropriate and representative of schools which provide assisted places under section 2(1) of that Act.</p></formula></preamble><body><p>In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 3(1), (2), (5) and (9) of that Act and now vested in the National Assembly for Wales<authorialNote class="footnote" eId="f00002" marker="2"><p>The functions of the Secretary of State under section 3 were transferred to the National Assembly for Wales by the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 (<ref eId="c00003" href="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/uksi/1999/672">S.I. 1999/672</ref>).</p></authorialNote>, the National Assembly for Wales makes the following Regulations:</p><hcontainer name="regulation" eId="regulation-1"><heading>Citation, commencement and application</heading><num>1.</num><paragraph eId="regulation-1-1"><num>(1)</num><content><p>These Regulations are called the Education (Assisted Places) (Amendment) (Wales) Regulations 2002 and shall come into force on 1st September 2002.</p></content></paragraph><paragraph eId="regulation-1-2"><num>(2)</num><content><p>These Regulations apply to Wales only.</p></content></paragraph><paragraph eId="regulation-1-3"><num>(3)</num><content><p>These Regulations apply in relation to any school year beginning on or after 1st September The <abbr title="Education (Assisted Places) Regulations 1997 (S.I. 1997/1968)">1997 Regulations</abbr> prescribe arrangements for pupils who are eligible to continue to hold assisted places at independent schools by virtue of section 2 of the Education (Schools) Act 1997, notwithstanding the abolition of the assisted places scheme by section 1 of that Act.</p></blockContainer><blockContainer ukl:Name="P"><p>The deduction to be made in “relevant” income in respect of dependent relatives under regulation 10(4) and (6) of the <abbr title="Education (Assisted Places) Regulations 1997 (S.I. 1997/1968)">1997 Regulations</abbr> is increased from £1,430 to £1,465.</p></blockContainer><blockContainer ukl:Name="P"><p>The level of income at or below which fees are to be wholly remitted is set at £11,368 instead of £11,116, with corresponding increases in the extent of remission where “relevant” income exceeds that sum.</p></blockContainer></blockContainer></conclusions></act></akomaNtoso>
