Section 84 of the Schools Standards and Framework Act 1998 requires the National Assembly to issue a Code of Practice containing such practical guidance as it thinks appropriate, in respect of the discharge of admission function by location education authorities, the governing bodies of foundation and voluntary aided schools and admission appeal panels.

The National Assembly for Wales makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by section 85(5) of the School Standards and Framework Act 19981 and now vested in the Assembly.2
