The Education (Mathematics and Science Teacher Training Incentive) (Wales) Regulations 1999

Interpretation

2.  In these Regulations—

“accredited institution” means an institution accredited by the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, as a provider of courses satisfying such provisions as to curricula and other criteria as may be from time to time specified by the Assembly;

“Assembly” means the National Assembly for Wales(1)

“qualified teacher” means a person who, in pursuance of the Regulations relating to the employment of teachers from time to time in force under section 218 of the Education Reform Act 1988(2), is qualified to be employed as a teacher at a school to which that section applies; and

“science” means one or more of the subjects of biology, chemistry and physics.

The National Assembly for Wales was established by section 1 of the Government of Wales Act 1998 (c. 38). All the functions of the Secretary of State relevant to these Regulations are transferred to the Assembly by the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 with effect from 1st July 1999. Accordingly, in relation to Wales, references to the Secretary of State in the relevant provisions of the Education (No 2) Act 1986 are to be construed as being, or including, a reference to the Assembly see section 43 of the Government of Wales Act 1998.
