The Registrar General, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5 and 39 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 19531, with the approval of the Secretary of State, makes the following Regulations.

Citation and commencement1.

These Regulations may be cited as the Registration of Births and Deaths (Coronavirus) (Amendment) Regulations 2020 and come into force on the day after the day on which they are made.

Amendment of the Registration of Births and Deaths Regulations 19872.

In the Registration of Births and Deaths Regulations 19872, in regulation 9(1) (entry of particulars on registration)3, omit “in the presence of the informant”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Registration of Births and Deaths Regulations 1987 (S.I. 1987/2088) (‘the 1987 Regulations’). They amend regulation 9(1) of the 1987 Regulations to allow for the entry of information in a birth registration entry without the registrar needing to be in the presence of the informant.
