Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by section 10(2) of the Highways Act 19801 and now vested in the Secretary of State2:-

In accordance with section 10(2) of that Act, the Secretary of State has taken into consideration the requirements of local and national planning, including the requirements of agriculture, as is satisfied as to the expediency.

This Order is made in compliance with the provisions of Parts I and III of Schedule 1 of that Act.

This Order may be cited as the A6055 (A1(M) Junction 56, Barton Interchange) (Trunking) Order 2020 and shall come into force on 19th May 2020.

In this Order “the plan” means the plan numbered HE/10/OD/005, marked “The A6055 (A1(M) Junction 56, Barton Interchange) (Trunking) Order 2020”, signed by the authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Communities and Local Government, Deposited Document Services, Room F13, Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex, TN37 7GA;

The length of highway described in the Schedule to this Order shall become trunk road from the date when the Order comes into force.

SCHEDULELENGTH OF HIGHWAY BECOMING TRUNK ROAD

The length of highway to become trunk road is the A6055 Barton Interchange Roundabout at Junction 56 of the A1(M) Motorway, in the District of Richmondshire in the County of North Yorkshire, as shown by hatching on the plan.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

As part of the upgrading of the A1 to motorway status, a new roundabout was constructed at the junction of the A6055 near Barton, North Yorkshire, to form a grade separated junction at the A1(M) Junction 56, also known as “Barton Interchange”. This Order designates the section of road described in the Schedule as a trunk road. Thereafter, responsibility for managing and maintaining the road shall pass to Highways England Company Limited, which shall be the highway authority for the highway described in the Schedule to this Order.
