The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 153(4) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990(1).
1. This Order—
(a)may be cited as the Financial Assistance for Environmental Purposes (England) Order 2020;
(b)comes into force on 30th March 2020; and
(c)extends to England and Wales.
2. In section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990(2) (purposes for which financial assistance may be given), after paragraph (nn) insert—
“(oo)any scheme, programme or organisation for the purpose of preventing or reducing waste or litter in England, or of promoting resource efficiency in England;
(pp)any scheme, programme or organisation for the storage, transport, treatment or disposal of any material or product in England for the purpose of preventing or reducing environmental damage.”.

This Order, which applies in relation to England only, inserts two new entries into section 153(1) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. These entries extend the list of environmental purposes for which the Secretary of State may, with the consent of the Treasury, give financial assistance.

Section 153(1)(a) to (nn) was substituted for section 153(1)(a) to (aaa), in relation to England and Wales, by S.I. 2015/479.
