EXITING THE EUROPEAN UNION

AGRICULTURE

These Regulations are made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(1) of, and paragraph 21 of Schedule 7 to, the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (c. 16) in order to address failures of retained EU law to operate effectively and other deficiencies (in particular under section 8(2)(a), (b), (d) and (g)) arising from the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union.

Coming into force in accordance with regulation 1

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8 of, and paragraph 21 of Schedule 7 to, the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 20181, makes the following Regulations.

There has been consultation through representative bodies as required by Article 9 of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 of the European Parliament and of the Council laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, establishing the European Food Safety Authority and laying down procedures in matters of food safety2.

In accordance with paragraph 1(1) of Schedule 7 to the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, a draft of this instrument has been laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
