The Scotland Act 2016 (Commencement No. 6) Regulations 2017

The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 72(4) of the Scotland Act 2016(1).

Citation

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Scotland Act 2016 (Commencement No. 6) Regulations 2017.

Provisions coming into force on 18th May 2017

2.—(1) Subject to paragraph (2), the following provisions of Part 1 of the Scotland Act 2016 (constitutional arrangements) come into force on 18th May 2017—

(a)section 3 (elections);

(b)section 4 (power to make provision about elections);

(c)section 5 (timing of elections);

(d)section 6 (electoral registration: the digital service);

(e)section 7 (expenditure in connection with elections);

(f)section 8 (review of electoral boundaries by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland);

(g)section 9 (functions exercisable within devolved competence: elections);

(h)section 10 (minor and consequential amendments: elections etc);

(i)section 11 (super-majority requirement for certain legislation); and

(j)section 12 (scope to modify the Scotland Act 1998).

(2) Section 9 comes into force immediately after sections 3 to 8 and 10 to 12.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations bring into force provisions in Part 1 of the Scotland Act 2016 which relate to elections and legislation by the Scottish Parliament.

These commencement Regulations are the sixth to be made in respect of commencement of the Scotland Act 2016.
