(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order varies the Spring Traps Approval (England) Order 2012 (S.I. 2012/13).
Under section 8 of the Pests Act 1954 (c. 68), it is an offence to use or knowingly to permit the use of any spring trap, other than a trap that has been approved by order, for animals or in circumstances for which it is not approved.
This Order adds two types of spring trap to those approved for use in England: the Duke 116 and the Goodnature A24 Rat and Stoat Trap (article 2(b) and (c)). It also adds to the target species against which two of the traps previously approved may be used: the BMI Magnum 55 may now also be used for grey squirrels (article 2(a)), and the Kania Trap 2000 may now also be used for edible dormice (article 2(d)).
An impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sectors is foreseen.
