The Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study) (England) (Amendment) (No. 3) Order 2014
In accordance with section 96(5), the Secretary of State published a draft of the proposed order and the associated documents, and a summary of the views expressed.
In accordance with section 96(6), the Secretary of State allowed a period of not less than one month beginning with the publication of the draft of the proposed order for the submission of further evidence and representations as to the issues arising.
The Secretary of State now makes the following Order.
Citation and commencement

This Order may be cited as the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study) (England) (Amendment) (No. 3) Order 2014 and, subject to paragraph (2), comes into force on 1st September 2015.
(2)
Article 3 comes into force on 1st August 2016.

In article 2(a) for “16th July 2014” substitute “2nd December 2014”.

In relation to a pupil in the first year of the fourth key stage on or after 1st August 2016 but before 1st August 2017, it is directed that the provisions relating to programmes of study set out in the Framework Document have effect for the purposes of specifying the programme of study for the fourth key stage in relation to science.

In relation to a pupil in the fourth key stage on or after 1st August 2017, it is directed that the provisions relating to programmes of study set out in the Framework Document have effect for the purposes of specifying the programme of study for the fourth key stage in relation to science.”.

Article 6(2) is amended as follows—
(a)
omit the word “or” in sub-paragraph (b), and
(b)
in sub-paragraph (c)—
(i)
for “1st August 2015” substitute “1st August 2016”, and
(ii)
“; or
(d)
is in the final year of the fourth key stage on or after 1st August 2016 but before 1st August 2017 for the purposes of specifying the programme of study for the fourth key stage in relation to science”.
This Order amends the Education (National Curriculum) (Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study) (England) Order 2013, which makes provision for a new National Curriculum from 2014 by giving effect to the Framework Document.
It gives effect to a revised Framework Document from 2016, with a new key stage 4 programme of study for science that will apply to year 10 pupils in 2016-17 and to all pupils in key stage 4 from 2017 onwards. It also provides that those Orders which contain the current key stage 4 programmes of study for science will continue to apply to all pupils in key stage 4 up to 2016, and to year 11 pupils only in 2016-17.
