Coming into force
The Secretary of State makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 50(1), (2)(b) and (7) of the Police Act 19961.
In accordance with section 63(3)2 of the Police Act 1996, the Secretary of State supplied a draft of the Regulations to the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales and took into consideration the representations made by the Board.
Citation, commencement and extent1

These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Promotion) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 and shall come into force on 19th August 2013.

These Regulations extend to England and Wales.
Amendment to the Police (Promotion) Regulations 19962

Paragraph 5 of Schedule 1 to the Police (Promotion) Regulations 19963 is amended as follows.

For sub-paragraph (3A) substitute—

Subject to sub-paragraphs (3B), (4) and (5), a member of a police force using the Part IIB assessment process who holds the rank of sergeant is eligible to take Part I of the qualifying assessment for promotion to the rank of inspector.

Sub-paragraph (3A) does not apply to a member of a police force who holds the rank of sergeant on temporary promotion under regulation 6, unless the member is participating in the HPD Scheme.
