Section 14 was substituted, together with sections 14A-14J, by section 1(1) of, and paragraphs 1 and 2 of Schedule 1 to, the Football (Disorder) Act <ref eId="c00002" href="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/2000/25">2000 (c. 25)</ref>. Section 22A was inserted by section 1(2) of, and paragraphs 9 and 18 of Schedule 2 to, the Football (Disorder) Act 2000, and was amended by section 65 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Violent Crime Reduction Act <ref eId="c00003" href="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/2006/38">2006 (c. 38)</ref>, by section 39(2) of the Identity Cards Act <ref eId="c00004" href="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/2006/15">2006 (c. 15)</ref> and by section 12 of and paragraphs 3 and 5 of the Schedule to, the Identity Documents Act <ref eId="c00005" href="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/2010/40">2010 (c. 40)</ref>.</p></authorialNote>.</p><formula name="enactingText"><p>The Secretary of State considers that the provision made by article 2 of this Order is expedient in order to secure the effective enforcement of Part 2 of that Act.</p></formula></preamble><body><hcontainer name="crossheading" ukl:Name="P1group"><heading>Citation, commencement and interpretation</heading><article eId="article-1"><num>1.</num><paragraph eId="article-1-1"><num>(1)</num><content><p>This Order may be cited as the Football Spectators (2012 European Championship Control Period) Order 2012 and shall come into force on 8th March 2012.</p></content></paragraph><paragraph eId="article-1-2"><num>(2)</num><intro><p>In this Order—</p></intro><hcontainer name="definition"><content><p>“<abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr>” means the Football Spectators Act 1989;</p></content></hcontainer><hcontainer name="definition"><content><p>“the Tournament” means the external tournament known as the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) 2012 European Championship in Poland and Ukraine.</p></content></hcontainer></paragraph></article></hcontainer><hcontainer name="crossheading" ukl:Name="P1group"><heading>Control period</heading><article eId="article-2"><num>2.</num><content><p>Section 14(6) of <abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr> shall have effect in relation to the Tournament as if, for the reference to five days, there were substituted a reference to ten days.</p></content></article><article eId="article-3"><num>3.</num><paragraph eId="article-3-1"><num>(1)</num><content><p>In relation to the Tournament, the period described in paragraph (2) below is a control period for the purposes of Part 2 of <abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr>.</p></content></paragraph><paragraph eId="article-3-2"><num>(2)</num><content><p>The period referred to in paragraph (1) is the period beginning on 29th May 2012, being ten days before the day of the first football match which is included in the Tournament, and ending when the last match included in the Tournament (which, subject to postponement, is due to be on 1st July 2012) is finished or cancelled.</p></content></paragraph></article></hcontainer><hcontainer name="signatures"><hcontainer name="signatureBlock"><content><block name="signature"><signature refersTo="#">Lord Henley</signature></block><block name="role"><role refersTo="#">Minister of State</role></block><blockContainer class="address"><p><location refersTo="#">Home Office</location></p></blockContainer><block name="date"><date date="2012-02-09">9th February 2012</date></block></content></hcontainer></hcontainer></body><conclusions><blockContainer class="explanatoryNote"><heading>EXPLANATORY NOTE</heading><subheading>(This note is not part of the Order)</subheading><blockContainer ukl:Name="P"><p>This Order prescribes the control period under the Football Spectators Act 1989 (“<abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr>”) for the 2012 European Championship in Poland and Ukraine. The control period begins on 29th May 2012, which is ten days before the first match in the tournament, and ends when the last match in the tournament is finished or cancelled. The last match is due to be played on 1st July 2012.</p></blockContainer><blockContainer ukl:Name="P"><p>During the control period, powers under sections 21A and 21B of <abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr> (summary powers to detain and refer to a court with a view to making a banning order) are exercisable. An individual subject to a banning order may be required to surrender his passport during a control period by virtue of section 19 of <abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr>. In addition, bail conditions can be imposed on an individual requiring him to surrender his passport during a control period under section 14A (banning orders made on conviction of an offence) and section 14B (banning orders made on complaint) of <abbr title="Football Spectators Act 1989 c. 37">the Act</abbr>.</p></blockContainer></blockContainer></conclusions></act></akomaNtoso>
