POLICE, ENGLAND AND WALES
These Regulations consolidate the Police (Complaints and Misconduct) Regulations 2004 (“the 2004 Regulations”) and the various Regulations that have amended the 2004 Regulations. They also make modifications to the provisions of the 2004 Regulations in order to reflect amendments made to the Police Reform Act 2002 (“the 2002 Act”) by the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 (“the 2011 Act”). They further modify the provisions of the 2004 Regulations in order to make improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of the police complaints system.

Reference of Death or Serious Injury matters8
Any DSI matter which is required to be referred to the Commission shall be referred in such manner as the Commission specifies and—
a
in a case where the Commission directs that the matter be referred to it, without delay and in any event not later than the end of the day following the day on which the Commission so directs;
b
in any other case, without delay and in any event not later than the end of the day following the day on which the matter first comes to the attention of the appropriate authority.
