Coming into force
The Secretary of State for Work and Pensions is designated for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19721 in relation to social security2.
Accordingly the Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by:
section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972;
sections 5(1)(b), 189(4) and 191 of the Social Security Administration Act 19923;
sections 75(1) and 175(3) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 19924; and
sections 10(6), 79(4) and 84 of the Social Security Act 19985.
In accordance with section 173(1)(b) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992, the Secretary of State has obtained the agreement of the Social Security Advisory Committee that proposals in respect of these Regulations should not be referred to it.
