Made

Laid before Parliament

Coming into force

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 4(1)(a) of the Local Government Act 1999(1) (having regard to the definition in section 1(1)(d)).

In accordance with section 4(3) of that Act, she has consulted persons appearing to her to represent police authorities and such other persons as she thought fit.

(1)

1999 c. 27. This section is amended by section 139 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007 (c.28) (the “2007 Act”) to replace references to “best value authority” with “Welsh best value authority”. Section 144 of the 2007 Act amends section 1 of the Local Government Act 1999 (the “1999 Act”) to set out the definition of “Welsh best value authority”. The definition of “Welsh best value authority” does not include police authorities in Wales. When the amendments made by the 2007 Act are commenced, the commencement order will contain a saving provision so that section 4 of the 1999 Act will continue to apply in relation to police authorities in England and Wales until 31st March 2010.
