The Police (Promotion)(Amendment) Regulations 2008

Coming into force

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 50 of the Police Act 19961, and after supplying a draft of the Regulations to the Police Advisory Board for England and Wales and taking into consideration any representations made by that Board in accordance with section 63(3)2 of the Police Act 1996, makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and extent1

These Regulations may be cited as the Police (Promotion) (Amendment) Regulations 2008, and shall come into force on 7th March 2008.

These Regulations extend to England and Wales.

Amendment to the Police (Promotion) Regulations 19962

The Police (Promotion) Regulations 19963 are amended in accordance with these Regulations.

In paragraph 5(1) of Schedule 1, insert “(1B),” after “sub-paragraphs”.

A constable who is participating in the HPD Scheme is eligible to take Part I of the qualifying assessment for promotion to the rank of sergeant.

These Regulations amend the Police (Promotion) Regulations 1996 by allowing constables who are participating in the High Potential Development scheme to take Part I of the qualifying assessment for promotion to the rank of sergeant.
