The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Increase of Endowment) Order 2006

Coming into force

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 19(2) of the National Lottery Act 19981.

In accordance with section 19(3) of that Act she has consulted each of the bodies for the time being mentioned in section 23 of the National Lottery etc. Act 19932.

In accordance with section 19(8) of the National Lottery Act 1998, a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Increase of Endowment) Order 2006 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

Increase of endowment2

For the purpose of increasing the amount of the endowment of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (“NESTA”), the Secretary of State is to be permitted to pay to NESTA out of the money held in the National Lottery Distribution Fund and allocated, in accordance with section 22(3)(f) of the National Lottery etc. Act 19933, for expenditure on or connected with health, education or the environment five sums of £15,000,000 each.

This Order permits the Secretary of State to increase the amount of the endowment of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. For this purpose, the Order enables the Secretary of State to pay to NESTA £75,000,000 out of the money held in the National Lottery Distribution Fund and allocated for expenditure on or connected with health, education or the environment.
