The Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (Addition of Qualifying Judicial Offices) Order 2006

Coming into force

The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 1(8) and section 26(9)(a) of the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 19931, makes the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (Addition of Qualifying Judicial Offices) Order 2006 and comes into force on 3rd April 2006.

In Part II of Schedule 1 to the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (offices which may be qualifying judicial offices for the purposes of Part 1 of the Act), after the entry relating to District Judge, insert—

  • Coroner appointed under section 2(1) of the Coroners Act (Northern Ireland) 1959

At the end of Schedule 5 to that Act (retirement provisions: the relevant offices), add—

  • Coroner appointed under section 2(1) of the Coroners Act (Northern Ireland) 1959

  • Deputy Coroner appointed under section 2(1) of the Coroners Act (Northern Ireland) 1959

This Order amends the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 so as to add—

a

to the list of qualifying judicial offices for the purposes of Part I of that Act that of coroner appointed under section 2(1) of the Coroners Act (Northern Ireland) 1959; and

b

to the list of qualifying judicial offices for the purposes of section 26(1) of that Act those of coroner appointed under section 2(1) of the Coroners Act (Northern Ireland) 1959 and deputy coroner appointed under section 2(1) of the Coroners Act (Northern Ireland) 1959.
