The Electoral Commission1, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 172 and 263 of the Local Government Act 1992, make the following Order:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the District of North Shropshire (Electoral Changes) (Amendment) Order 2006.

This Order comes into force on the day after that on which it is made.

Amendment to the 2000 Order2

In article 9(3) of the District of North Shropshire (Electoral Changes) Order 20004 the words “Newtown” and “Wem” shall be transposed.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the District of North Shropshire (Electoral Changes) Order 2000, in order to give full effect to the Secretary of State’s decision on recommendations by the Local Government Commission for England for electoral changes in the district of North Shropshire.

That Order was made by the Secretary of State. The functions of the Secretary of State under sections 13 to 15 and 17 of the Local Government Act 1992, so far as they relate to electoral changes, were transferred with modifications to the Electoral Commission by the Local Government Commission for England (Transfer of Functions) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/3962) with effect from 1st April 2002.
