PREVENTION AND SUPPRESSION OF TERRORISM

The Terrorism Act 2000 (Proscribed Organisations) (Amendment) Order 2005

The Secretary of State makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3(3)(a) of the Terrorism Act 2000(1);

In accordance with section 3(4) of that Act, the Secretary of State believes that the organisations listed in article 2 of the following Order are concerned in terrorism;

In accordance with section 123(4)(a) of that Act, a draft of this Order has been laid before and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament.

1.  This Order may be cited as the Terrorism Act 2000 (Proscribed Organisations) (Amendment) Order 2005 and shall come into force on the day after the day on which it is made.

2.  The following organisations are added at the end of Schedule 2 to the Terrorism Act 2000(2):

  • Al Ittihad Al Islamia

  • Ansar Al Islam

  • Ansar Al Sunna

  • Groupe Islamique Combattant Marocain

  • Harakat-ul-Jihad-ul-Islami

  • Harakat-ul-Jihad-ul-Islami (Bangladesh)

  • Harakat-ul-Mujahideen/Alami

  • Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin

  • Islamic Jihad Union

  • Jamaat ul-Furquan

  • Jundallah

  • Khuddam ul-Islam

  • Lashkar-e Jhangvi

  • Libyan Islamic Fighting Group

  • Sipah-e Sahaba Pakistan.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Part 2 of the Terrorism Act 2000 makes provision about proscribed organisations (including setting out offences in relation to such organisations in sections 11 to 13). An organisation is proscribed if it is listed in Schedule 2 to that Act or operates under the same name as an organisation so listed (section 3(1)). This Order adds the organisations listed in article 2 to the list in that Schedule.
