Solicitors (Compensation for Inadequate Professional Services) Order 2005

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 3(2) of Schedule 1A to the Solicitors Act 1974(1), having consulted the Law Society, hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Solicitors (Compensation for Inadequate Professional Services) Order 2005 and shall come into force on 1st January 2006.

2.  In paragraph 3(1) of Schedule 1A to the Solicitors Act 1974(2), for the figure “£5,000” there shall be substituted the figure “£15,000”.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order increases from £5,000 to £15,000 the maximum compensation that the Council of the Law Society may direct a solicitor to pay his client for inadequate professional services.
