Under section 56 of the Act, the General Social Care Council (“the English Council”) must maintain a register of social workers and of social care workers of any other description specified by Order. This Order specifies student social workers as being social care workers for the purposes of registration under that section. A student social worker is defined as someone who is participating in a course approved by the English Council under section 63 of the Act for persons wishing to become social workers.</dc:description>

<Text>This Order may be cited as the General Social Care Council (Registration) (Description of Social Care Workers) Order 2004 and shall come into force on 1st April 2004.</Text>

<Text>In this Order—</Text>

<Text>“<Abbreviation Expansion="Care Standards Act 2000 c. 14">the Act</Abbreviation>” means the Care Standards Act 2000; and</Text>

<Title>Description of social care workers for the purposes of registration</Title>
