The Rules of the Air (Amendment) Regulations 2003

Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by article 84(1) of the Air Navigation Order 20001 hereby makes the following Regulations:

These Regulations may be cited as the Rules of the Air (Amendment) Regulations 2003 and shall come into force on 10th February 2003.

The First Schedule to the Rules of the Air Regulations 19962 shall be amended by substituting for Table II referred to in Rule 30(1):

TABLE II—Flights at levels above 24,500 ft

These Regulations further amend the Rules of the Air Regulations 1996.

Table II of Rule 30 is amended to permit flight at levels which provide a reduced vertical separation to reflect the introduction of Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) airspace throughout Europe. In this airspace a vertical separation of 1,000 feet is permitted for opposite direction traffic between FL 290 (29,000 feet) and FL 410 (41,000 feet) (inclusive) where the operator and the aircraft is approved to fly in such airspace.
