The Credit Unions Act 1979 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2003

The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 33(2) of the Credit Unions Act 19791, hereby make the following Order:

Citation and commencement1.

This Order may be cited as the Credit Unions Act 1979 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2003 and comes into force on 1st September 2003.

Commencement of section 3(2) and (3) of the 1979 Act2.

1st September 2003 is the day appointed for the coming into operation of subsections (2) and (3) of section 3 of the Credit Unions Act 1979 (use of the name “credit union”)2.

This Order brings into force on 1st September 2003 those provisions of the Credit Unions Act 1979 (subsections (2) and (3) of section 3) which are not already in force. These provisions specify that it is a criminal offence to use the name “credit union” except in certain specified circumstances.
