Local policing objectives determined under section 7 of the 1996 Act must be consistent with these objectives. Section 8 of the 1996 Act requires police authorities to issue local policing plans which must give particulars of these objectives.</dc:description>

<Text>The objectives for the policing of the areas of all police authorities established under section 3 of the Police Act 1996 and of the Metropolitan Police Authority are—</Text>

<Text>to help create safe communities by reducing crime, anti-social behaviour and disorder through effective partnership working, including reducing the availability and use of Class A drugs;</Text>

<Text>to reduce the fear of crime in all sections of the community and in particular to increase the trust and confidence in policing amongst minority ethnic communities; and</Text>
