Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 3 of the Crown Office Act 18771, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the Crown Office (Forms and Proclamations Rules) (Amendment) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 27th January 2003.

Form of Writs of Summons2

Form A in Part I of the Schedule to the Crown Office (Forms and Proclamations Rules) Order 19922 (Form of Writs of Summons issued to Lords Spiritual) is amended by substituting for the words “Prelates Great Men and Peers” in both places where they occur the words “Prelates Great Men Great Women and Peers”.

The form of Writs of Summons issued to Lords Spiritual at the start of a new Parliament is set out in the Schedule to the Crown Office (Forms and Proclamations Rules) Order 1992. Writs of Summons to Lords Temporal, though not included in the Schedule, follow a similar form.

This Order in Council amends the Writs of Summons so that they refer to Great Women as well as to Great Men.
