|---|---|
Name of coroner’s district | Areas comprised in coroner’s district |
West and North Hertfordshire | The City of St Albans; the boroughs of Dacorum, Watford, Hertsmere, Stevenage; the district of Three Rivers; the district of Welwyn Hatfield except the parishes of Essendon and Hatfield; the district of North Hertfordshire except the parish of Rushden; in the district of East Hertfordshire, the parishes of Aston, Benington, Datchworth, Great Munden, Little Munden, Sacombe, Walkern and Watton-at-Stone. |
Hertford | The borough of Broxbourne; the district of East Hertfordshire except the parishes in the West and North Hertfordshire coroner’s district; in the district of North Hertfordshire, the parish of Rushden; in the district of Welwyn Hatfield, the parishes of Essendon and Hatfield. |
The County of Hertfordshire was divided into five coroners' districts by the Hertfordshire (Coroners' Districts) Order 1974. Two of these, Watford and St Albans were amalgamated to form the Watford/St Albans Coroner’s District by the Hertfordshire (Coroners' Districts) (Amendment) Order 1974. This district was then amalgamated with Hemel Hempstead, to form the West Hertfordshire Coroner’s District, by the Hertfordshire (Coroner’s Districts) (Amendment) Order 1998.
This Order replaces the two coroners' districts of Hitchin and West Hertfordshire by the district of West and North Hertfordshire (as set out in the Schedule to this Order). The Schedule also sets out the remaining district (Hertford Coroner’s District) of the two districts into which the County of Hertfordshire is now divided.
