The Secretary of State for Transport, being no longer satisfied that satisfactory provision is made by the laws of Kenya as respects the grant of driving licences to drive motor vehicles and having consulted representative organisations in accordance with section 108(3) of the Road Traffic Act 1988(1), in exercise of the powers conferred by section 108(2) of that Act hereby makes the following Order:

Department for Transport

(This Note is not part of the Order)
The Driving Licences (Exchangeable Licences) Order 1984 designates various countries and territories as countries and territories who have satisfactory provision for the issue of driving licences. A person who holds such a licence may exchange their licence for a corresponding British licence. The effect of this Order is to remove Kenya from the list of countries and territories so designated. The holder of a Kenyan driving licence will therefore no longer be able to exchange that licence for a corresponding British one.
1988 c. 52. Subsection (1) of section 108 was amended, subsection (2) was substituted and subsections (2A) and (2B) were inserted by the Deregulation (Exchangeable Driving Licences) Order 1998 (S.I. 1998/1917). In subsection (1) see the definition of “exchangeable licence”.
S.I. 1984/672.
